It’s been two and a half years since my debut novel, Single Bald Female, was published – and far longer since I finished writing it. If I had a pound for every time I’ve been asked ‘When is your next book coming out?' I’d be pretty rich.
(NB This question is as helpful as ‘When are you having kids?’ when you don’t even have a boyfriend.)
I really should have written book two by now, but I haven’t. I wrote through the grief of my secondary breast cancer diagnosis in 2022, but since then I’ve mostly been letting the ideas percolate, while trying not to beat myself up.
But look, I’ve been busy, OK? Aside from living with stage four breast cancer – which is pretty damn gruelling – I work for the UK’s biggest food magazine, host the Breast Cancer Now Podcast and, for the last few months, *drumroll please,* I’ve been beavering away on the third season of my own podcast.
All this is to say that Life in Food with Laura Price is finally back!
If you’re new to it, here’s the spiel:
Each episode, I speak to brilliant guests about food and one other thing, like Food and Heartbreak with Jessie Stephens and Food and Fashion with Lauren Bravo.
Season three focuses on the world’s best chefs so you can listen to Santiago Lastra on Food and Childhood and Sally Abé on Food and Feminism.
You don’t have to be a foodie to listen, as the conversations come back to mental health, nostalgia and how food heals us through life’s challenges.
Listen to the trailer here:
Today’s episode is Food and Neurodiversity with Douglas McMaster, who talks about building a career in restaurants after struggling at school with undiagnosed ADHD, dyslexia and OCD.
It’s one of my favourite episodes ever, and even though I don’t class myself as neurodivergent, there was so much I could relate to, particularly as I’ve suffered huge cognitive damage from cancer drugs and menopause.
I’ve poured my heart and soul into this! It’s an independent project so there’s no big marketing budget. It would mean the *entire world* to me if you would:

Share it with a friend
Give it a review on Spotify (this takes one second!)
Write a review or give it a rating on Apple Podcasts
I really hope you like it and would LOVE to hear your feedback! I love love love podcasting and I’d like to continue for as long as possible.
Have you listened? What did you think? I’d LOVE to know.
About your subscription
This newsletter has been sporadic and for that I’m sorry. I’ve kept it free.
In future though, I plan to turn on paid subscriptions and offer you more in return. However, I’ll give you fair warning, and there’ll still be some free content.
In the meantime, I’d love to ask what you’re here for, and what content you’re interested in. Please could you take a second to fill in the poll?
(Unhelpfully, it only lets you pick one option, so if you’re interested in multiple things from this newsletter, please leave a comment!)
I have loads in the pipeline: reflections on life with cancer, book and restaurant recommendations, an interview about creativity and lots more. Stay tuned.
Very interesting conversation. Well worth listening. Very revealing and thoughtful. Certainly makes you think.
Brilliant! Can’t wait to listen 🙌🧡
